Andre Swafford, 28

Andre Swafford, a 28-year-old black man, died Saturday, Sept. 17, three days after he was shot near 9th Street and Walnut Avenue in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Residents flagged down police Sept. 14 about 10:41 p.m. and directed them to Swafford, who was lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound, according to a Long Beach Police Department news release.

Paramedics were called, and Swafford was taken to the hospital, where he remained in critical condition until his death Sept. 17. He was pronounced dead at 12:15 a.m. Coroner's records show the victim died from a gunshot wound to the head.

Officials said there have been no arrests made in connection with the case. The shooting is believed to have been gang-related.
