Andres Jose Cruz, 31

Andres Jose Cruz, a 31-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Wednesday, Oct. 14, in the 13100 block of Van Nuys Boulevard in Pacoima, according to law enforcement and Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.

Shortly before 2:40 a.m., Cruz and another person were walking west on Van Nuys Boulevard when someone approached them, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department.

He asked where Cruz and the other person "were from," then pointed a gun at the two and fired, striking both, police said.

The gunman ran and got into a dark vehicle.

Cruz was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:45 a.m. The other person was taken to a hospital, treated and released.
