Andres Moctezuma Jr., 49

Andres Moctezuma Jr., a 49-year-old Latino, died Monday, Dec. 17 after he was shot in the 4600 block of South Vermont Avenue in Vermont Square, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s records.

On Dec. 16, shortly after 12:30 p.m., Moctezuma was found by police beside his bicycle outside a dollar store, said Los Angeles Police Det. Dave Garrido. Moctezuma had been shot in the forehead, police said.

Moctezuma was taken to a hospital, where he was died on Dec. 17 at 9:52 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Witnesses told police that a person had shot at Moctezuma from the opposite side of the street. The shooter and Moctezuma had a dispute earlier in the day, Garrido said.

Fernando Naranjo, a 40-year-old Latino, was charged Dec. 19 with one count of murder with the allegation that he used a gun, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office. 

Naranjo is due back in court Feb. 19, according to online L.A. County Sheriff’s Department records.
