Andrew Deleon, 29

Andrew Deleon, a 29-year-old Latino, was fatally shot Monday, Jan. 2,  in the 200 block of East Artesia Boulevard in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 5:15 a.m., Long Beach police responded to a call about a shooting in the area, according to a news release. There, officers found Deleon with gunshot wounds to his chest, the release said. 

He was taken to a hospital and was pronounced dead at 5:45 a.m., according to coroner’s records. 

A subsequent investigation revealed Deleon was shot by the resident of a home he was trying to burglarize, police said. Detectives believe the shooting was an act of self-defense.
