North Hollywood man sentenced for 2014 Red Line slaying
A 27-year-old man was sentenced Jan. 30 to 26 years to life in state prison for a fatal stabbing on a Metro Red Line train in 2014, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
Angelo Correa was earlier found guilty of first-degree murder in the slaying of Jose Edgaro Velazco-Alvardo, 33.
According to witness testimony, Correa was belligerent with passengers on the train on Jan. 13, 2014. He exchanged words with Velazco-Alvardo while the train was stopped at the Vermont/Santa Monica station, then pulled out a knife and stabbed Velazco-Alvarado.
