Annette Ernest, a 26-year-old black woman, was found dead along the dirt shoulder near Grand Avenue and 106th Street in Vermont Vista on Oct. 29, 1987. The Louisiana-born resident of Gardena had been raped and strangled.
Chester DeWayne Turner was sentenced to death in 2007 for the murder of Ernest and nine other women. Authorities believe he was tied to another seven killings.
