A story for every victim

Anthony Renee Beamon Jr., 36

Anthony Renee Beamon Jr., a 36-year-old black man, was shot and killed Sunday, March 6, in the 900 block of West Victoria Street in Compton, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Beamon was attending a party with about 150 other adults in a commercial building that had been rented for the occasion, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Mendoza said.

An argument broke out around 1:35 a.m. and one of the party-goers pulled out a handgun and began shooting, Mendoza said.

“Everyone began to scatter, and then other people began shooting,” Mendoza said. “We believe there were two or three shooters inside and in the parking lot.”

Ten people were struck by gunfire and taken to a nearby hospital, Mendoza said. Nine are expected to survive their injuries, but Beamon was pronounced dead at the hospital at 2:31 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

The shooters were described as black men, Mendoza said. Investigators have no other information about who they were or where they went after the shooting.

“This was an adult party with a DJ and a lot of gang members who have not been very cooperative about talking to us,” Mendoza said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. Those wishing to remain anonymous should call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
