Arrest: Elderly man in custody in connection with Armenian family slayings [Updated]
Authorities have arrested a man who they believe killed three family members living in the Little Armenia community.
Police officials said there is evidence linking him to the fatal shootings of Khachik Safaryan and his 8-year-old daughter Lusine on December 11, 2008, and last month's killing of Safaryan's widow, Karine Hakobyan.
[Updated 1:45 p.m.: Authorities identified the man as Alberd Tersargyan of Los Angeles. Authorities initially described him as in his 70s, based on statements, but later said they believe he is 59. Law enforcement sources said they also believe he may have stalked Hakobyan.]
Hakobyan and the couple's surviving daughter had moved to a new apartment several blocks away from their former home after the girl discovered the bodies of her father and sister when she got home from school. The same girl, now 14, also found her mother slumped in her car March 26 with a gunshot wound to the head.
