A story for every victim

Arturo Segura, 20 [Updated]

Arturo Segura, a 20-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Friday, May 7, in the 5800 block of South Main Street in Florence, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Segura was with friends in a parking lot about 7 p.m. when a person walked up and shot him, said LAPD Newton Det. Tommy Thompson. No one else was hurt.

Segura was taken to California Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 7:28 p.m., according to coroner's records.

Early the next morning, authorities made an arrest in connection with the shooting. A 16-year-old black male was taken into custody and booked on suspicion of murder, Thompson said. He was unable to provide more information about the suspect because he's a juvenile.

Investigators believe the shooting may have been gang-related.

[Update May 14: Authorities have identified the alleged shooter as Lorenzo Davis, according to the felony murder complaint provided by the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Davis, who is a juvenile, is being charged as an adult. Prosecutors have charged him with one count of murder and allege that the killing was “committed for the benefit of, at the direction of, and in association with a criminal street gang with the specific intent to promote, further and assist in criminal conduct by gang members.”

Davis’ next court appearance is scheduled for May 24 at the Los Angeles Municipal Court.
