Austin Edward Belisle, 45

Austin Edward Belisle, a 45-year-old Black man, was shot and killed Friday, July 31, in the 5200 block of Ruthelen Street in Vermont Square, according to Los Angeles County medical examiner-coroner's records.

About 2:50 p.m., officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s 77th Street Division responded to a call of a shooting in the area and found Belisle on a sidewalk with gunshot wounds, said LAPD Det. Dave Garrido.

Belisle was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:09 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Garrido said Belisle was in the area having his car worked on when three men ran up, prompting Belisle to run west on 52nd Street.

One of the men fired multiple gunshots, striking Belisle in the back, the detective said. Belisle was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. 

The three men ran back to a light-colored sedan, according to police.
