Austin Thang Thai, 22

Austin Thang Thai, a 22-year-old Asian man, was shot and killed Saturday, May 16, in the 1600 block of Gaviota Avenue in Long Beach, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s records.

About 12:30 a.m., officers from the Long Beach Police Department responded to a call about shots fired in the area, according to a news release from the department. 

Officers found Thai in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle with gunshot wounds. Thai was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Witnesses told police that a man was seen running from the scene after the gunshots. 

An online fundraiser set up for funeral costs described Thai as a kind and humble person, and an only child.
