Avelardo Gomez, 38

Avelardo Gomez, a 38-year-old Latino, died Thursday, Oct. 5, after being beaten in the head more than a month earlier in the 1800 block of Hancock Street in Lincoln Heights, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

On Aug. 31 about 5 p.m., Gomez is believed to have gotten into an altercation with another person, said Los Angeles Police Det. Jose Ramirez.

Gomez was beaten in the head with a “blunt instrument,” Ramirez said, and he was found by a transient who called the fire department.

Gomez was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead more than a month later, on Oct. 5 at 4:31 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Detectives are still trying to figure out the details of the altercation, Ramirez said.
