Azikiwe Christopher Onwuemelie, 19

Azikiwe Christopher Onwuemelie, a 19-year-old black man, was shot and killed Saturday, May 20, in the the 23000 block of South Livewood Lane in Harbor City, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records. 

Onwuemelie was at a gathering at a home just before 1 a.m. when someone began shooting, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. Rodney Moore. 

Two men, Onwuemelie and a friend, were shot, and both were taken to the hospital by friends, Moore said. 

Onwuemelie was pronounced dead at the hospital at 1:30 a.m., according to coroner’s records. The cause of death was listed as a gunshot wound to the chest. 

His friend was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the upper torso and was listed as stable, Moore said.  

Investigators don’t know the motive for the shooting. The gunman was described only as a black man in his early 20s.
