Bert Crump Jr., 17

Bert Crump Jr., a 17-year-old black youth, was shot and killed Saturday, Aug. 23 in the 1200 block of West Gage Avenue in Vermont-Slauson, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 6:15 p.m., Crump was standing in front of a home with a group of people when he got into a dispute with another man, who was black, said LAPD Det. Sal LaBarbera.

The killer, who detectives said is between 17 and 19 years old, pulled out a gun and fired several shots.

Crump was wounded and driven a short distance to the 1000 block of West 61st Street.  A person then stopped the vehicle and called an ambulance, LaBarbera said.

Paramedics arrived and Crump was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:44 p.m., according to coroner’s records.
