Brandon Blanton, a 21-year-old black man, was fatally shot Tuesday July 5, in the 7800 block of South Vermont Avenue in Vermont Knolls, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Blanton had just left a party and was walking to his car about 2:20 a.m. when he was approached by unknown people, said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office.
They got into a fight and Blanton was shot, Winter said.
Authorities were called, and the victim was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:06 a.m.
Coroner's records show he died from a gunshot wound to the chest.
