A story for every victim

Brian Ramirez, 20

Brian Ramirez, a 20-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Sunday, April 6, in the 6700 block of Kester Avenue in Van Nuys, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 1:45 a.m., Ramirez and a friend were dropped off in the area and were walking north on Kester Avenue. At the mouth of an an underground parking garage, Ramirez was shot, said LAPD Det. Robert Bub. Ramirez ran into the garage, where he collapsed, Bub said.

A group of people were near the garage at the time of the shooting, Bub said. “Nobody hung around to talk to us,” he said.

Police don't know whether the shooter was on foot or in a car.

“We’re not sure if he [Ramirez] was the intended victim or someone else was the intended victim,” Bub said.

Ramirez was pronounced dead at 2:15 a.m. at the scene, said Ed Winter, a coroner’s spokesman. An autopsy showed that Ramirez died of a gunshot wound.

Anyone with information is asked to call Van Nuys Homicide Detectives at (818) 374-0040. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
