Brittani Idom, 18

Brittani Idom, 18, a black woman, suffered a gunshot wound as she was driving near the intersection of Washington and Crenshaw boulevards in Los Angeles and died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center at 3:29 a.m. Friday, July 6.

Detectives said initial reports that she had driven into the middle of a gang gun battle were disproved by further investigation. Rather, they said she had simply been struck by a bullet out of the night when she and an 18-year-old girlfriend, a passenger in the car, were driving away from a club.
