Carl Sebastian Betts, a 51-year-old black man, was shot and killed Sunday, May 31 in the 1900 block of West 85th Street in Manchester Square, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 10:30 p.m., Betts and another person were sitting in a dark-colored sedan when another dark-colored sedan drove up and a person inside asked if he was in a gang, then shot at him multiple times, LAPD Det. Chris Barling said.

The gunman’s vehicle drove west on West 85th Street. Betts was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:40 p.m., said Ed Winter, assistant chief of investigations for the coroner’s office.

Police are looking for witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to call the Criminal Gang Homicide Division at (323) 786-5113. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
