Charles Anthony Hanvey, 52

July 18, 2011, 10:13 a.m.

Charles Hanvey, a 52-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Monday, July 4 in the 700 block of Brady Avenue in East Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Hanvey was the victim of a walk-up shooting, said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office.

He was shot about 11:22 p.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:51 a.m.

The coroner's office had no other details about the case.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the sheriff's homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500. Tipsters who'd like to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800)-222-8477.

Funny that there is a lot to say about Kimiko or even Katomi but the truth. Kimiko and Katomi are Charles closes daughters he raised them both with his wife Anna in a home as a family until they where adults. Charles had Melissa who he loved and claimed as his daughter since she was a little girl. Now as far as his 2 other daughters from before they where never around and from what has been said from few people they didn't even like him and wanted him to hurry and pass away from the cancer and never visit him when he was sick. A lot of the post on this site are lies from a person who did not have a real relationship but post just to make themselves acknowledged a person full of jealousy. but his real family who took part in his life know the truth and know how much he loved his daughters Kimiko and Katomi. No matter what is said we all know how special Kimiko was to Charles and every time she was around you can see the love in his eyes. It's a shame how there is so much jealousy.

Gosh I feel so bad for this man. He died a long time ago and yet the legacy he left was a family torn apart by his actions. Even if he didn't claim or like his daughter, she is still his daughter. If another man stood up and raised his child you should on his behalf say thank you. The demons that run through this family are deeper than can be expressed here. The hurt and anger this man left behind is evident. He was an adult capable of make his own funeral arrangements before he died but, he left behind adult daughter(s) who are incapable of living a life without him. As parents it is our responsibility to raise our children to manage after we are gone, no matter what age they are when we leave. If this man left his adult daughters so incapable of living a life after him, what hope do they leave in for their own children. As a parent it is our responsibility to raise our children to be responsible contributing members of society. What this person left behind was a family who depended on him so much, that all these years later, they still hold on to the anger that they were raised with and the sad and disturbing co-dependent relationship(s). That is a sad legacy to have left behind. His off spring are still in the same place emotionally, as when they were 12 years old and fighting over who daddy loved more. The fights here on this blog speak volumes about that man who left this kind of turmoil for his daughters to carry on and it is not a positive one. He left behind anger, hostility, dependency, hurt, and daughters who are fighting for the love of a man who died many many years ago. Yes, this goes a long way for the legacy that this man left.

Hope your up there with uncle James you both are the true meaning of brothers he was your favorite brother and now your together.
Dad I been waiting so long to say that this site sounds like a bunch of lies that have turned into anything but your memory and that I am so sorry that I allowed your funeral to be such a disaster you really didn't deserve for it to be destroyed. Everyone that you held meaning towards was not acknowledge or not even invited. Your death caused me to become so weak that I allowed a person that you denied while you where alive to be in charge of your last memory and i regret not being the strong daughter of yours and not doing anything to make it right I just watched and cried and I'm so sorry but I'm not weak anymore dad I've always been your strongest thats what made us so close and I will make it right and I wont stay quite anymore I have to make it right and I will now that I don't have to worry about innocents being punished for my actions. Hey dad I really miss you So much I wish you where here still with me. There has been so many drastic changes in every part of my life and I miss being able to go run and tell you all about it and seeing the smile on your face while you laugh at me. Even though physically your not with me I still can feel you here making sure I'm still getting everything I want as you always have my whole life. You really where an awesome dad to me you never abandoned me even the 1 time we got into a huge fight and we would be so mean to eachother that still didn't stop you from calling me every day and night to hear me say hello then hang up or even send a stupid text lol. I think back on our memories and I'm so grateful to have you as my dad all my life you made sure all my wishes came true you always went the extra mile with me I remember when I was 16 you surprised me and got me my first car while you where on one of your vacations even being away you made sure I didn't have to be walking nothing has ever got in your way with me. My whole Life my happiness was your priority and I feel some part of you has to still be near me.
I know your guiding me and my sisters Katomi and Melissa you loved us so much and we loved you I know we may never find out who hurt you but I remember clearly how people responded to hearing about your passing and you where right about fake tears and I'm sorry your funeral wasn't how we talked about But I promise I will make it up to you with a memorial the way you wanted it to be and everyone active in your life will be there. Sometimes I miss you so bad I just want to give up, but I know that's not what you would want me to do. So I keep trying. It just gets so hard, looking at the world around me, knowing you'll never be a part of it again. I didn't tell you I loved you enough, but I do and I always will, no matter what I do, or where I go. I'm trying to do what you would've wanted me to do, but it's hard when you're not here making me do the right thing like you used to do. The last day I was with you I remember looking into your eyes and I could see all the love you had for me, for us. It was so hard watching you lay in the hospital bed, so motionless. I wanted to tell you I loved you one last time, but I was too late. You were the ONLY person who understood me. No one else tried. I want to come be with you now because there is nothing for me here, but I have to keep going, trying to do right. It's hard to imagine going my whole life without you. I never really had to think about it. I thought you would always be here with me. But you're gone and I don't know what to do.

A year has past, and I am still at a loss. But what you had taught me, when I was a little boy, still exists.

I have been very patient...but the tiger you caged is tired of being in the cage you put me into.

I know it was for my own good and I have done well, but the people around me take advantage of that patients.

For now, thank you MY DEAR BROTHER. While you strengthened your body and mind, I let mine whither forgetting what you taught me.

Your children still mourn as I do. Rest in peace and I will do my best to put the pieces back together. That is what you always wanted to do. I am the same, I have never changed. It is time I strengthen myself.

Miss you very much not a Day goes by that I dont think of you. It is gonna be a year on the 4th of July that you were taken from us our first fathers day with out THE GRAT ONE. 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢💔💔💔💔💔💔💔Dear Dad,

Well, here we are. It's our first Father's Day without you. I have to say, you really timed things perfectly. You guaranteed that we'd never forget you. It will be a year ago on the 4th of July . Father's Day will never be the same. A whole year without you. I never thought I'd get through it. I never thought any of us would get through it, actually. But the final indignity of having to watch you die was more than I thought I could take. It never ceased to amaze me that the world continued to turn after you took your last breath. I fully expected things to just stop right then and there.

The kids miss you. They talk about you all the time. We have pictures of you everywhere to remind them of all the good times we had together. When your twins prays, they always makes sure to ask God to treat you well. It's been such a difficult year for them.

I have been doing a lot of work around the house. I find myself reaching for the phone to call you and get your opinion on lifes trial & tribulattions. Your influence and ideas are everywhere. I miss being able to call you up and and just vent cry or just get ideas off you and get your take on things. I miss calling you and venting and having you tell me things would be all right and that I just had to calm down. I miss you. Period. I'm sitting here, writing this journal, with tears rolling down my cheeks, missing you so much it physically hurts. The pain in my heart that had faded to a dull ache over the past few months is amping back up to "someone jamming a dagger into my chest" status. It's been hell these past few weeks, as the advertising for Father's Day has reached fever pitch, to be constantly reminded that I would not be celebrating with my own father this year. I find myself being resentful of people whose fathers are still alive, which I know is petty and not anything they could do anything about. But I am jealous that they can call their dad up and tell him how much they love him, because I can't do that anymore.

I hope Heaven is all you hoped it would be. I hope you're up there, watching over us, reunited with everybody who'd gone before you. I hope that you're walking with Jesus. I hope that everything I've been taught and believed is true and that someday I'll see you again.

I miss you, Dad. More than I ever thought possible. Happy Father's Day. I was blessed beyond words to have been picked to be your daughter. I am so grateful to have so many wonderful memories of you and all of the fun times we had together. I'm going to try not to cry too much today, but it will be hard. But I have the sneaking suspicion you'll be there in spirit.

Wow, I can't believe this is still on.
Well Dad, there's nothing more to say other than I really wish you were here. Lately, going through life's issues I never felt so alone. I'm so left without it's unbelievable. Every one has there GO TO person. You know the person they go to for reassurance and protection. Some people just don't know their place in this world and need help finding it. You always had a way of putting people in their place. So did Richard. I wish I had both of you guys here. Richard was always my voice when i felt i was trapped in a situation and couldn't say anything. Simply because he could careless of how the other person felt. I haven't wrote on hear in awhile dad, I really miss you. So much goes on in my life as well as my head and I think my problem is I don't know how to process all my feelings in any other way then lashing out. I'm trying so hard not to do that any more. I have so many things to look foward and be happy about but i'm not. I find myself in this constant conflict with myself. I feel like I get in my own way dad. I just wish you were here to talk to. I have so much to say and I can picture your face now. You know that look you would give me like as if to say "it's not that serious katomi" and then I would look at you like my whole world was falling right before my eyes. I've known you and your siblings since you were all very young. I don't know what you're going through, having lost both parents in such a short period of time.....I can only imagine how you're feeling because you've lived such difficult and challenging 32+ yrs. Eventhough this blog is to keep Charlie's memory alive, I just want to show my support for u Shizue and want you to remember that your dads in a better place and also that you've come a very long way from being "crazy Susan" you struggled and fought through life so much to give up so easily now. Hello dad, well I am here just thinking of you my sisters & I miss you so much, it seems that times passes by but the pain remains :'( you are missed " GREAT ONE" ENDLESSLY .. here is your poem dad .:..:....... I'm always thinking about you. Your always making me teary-eyed. I love you daddy why did you have to go. I miss you a lot but you obviously don't know. Otherwise you wouldn't have had to go. CONEJO was a great man yes he was delt a awful hand in life but he never felt sorry for himself he was a man that built his life around protecting others and his daughters, family and friends HE WAS A MAN that stood tall with courage,committment, and most of all respect ! Dad, There's no need to say how much I love you because I know in my heart that you already know. You were my Dad and for the most part my hero. I grew up looking at you like you were the toughest, strongest man alive. There wasn't a scary bone in your body and I admired that about you. As days go on and you are no longer here I sit back and think of all our conversations. Our laughs, our crys, and most of all the great advise you ever given to me. You installed great values in me. LOYALTY and RESPECT is the name of the game, and you had plenty. I run a muck on the same streets you did Dad and I took comfort in knowing that I always had you to have my back. I'm not worried though because I know that you are still watching me from heaven. And If anything I now have two Gaurdian Angels. And, what better than the most important men in my life. All his toils and conflicts o'er. Lo, he dwells with Christ above; Oh, what glories he's discovered; In the Saviour whom he loved.

You're not forgotten father, dear; Nor ever shall you be; As long as life and memory last; I shall remember thee.

His weary hours and days of pain; His troubled nights are past; And in our aching hearts we know; He has found sweet peace at last.

Gone is the face we loved so dear; Silent is the voice we loved to hear; Too far away for sight or speech; But not too far for thought to reach; Sweet to remember him who once was here; And who though absent, is just as dear.

His smiling way and pleasant face; Are a pleasure to recall; He had a kindly word for each; And died beloved by all. Some day we hope to meet him; To clasp his hand in a better land; Someday we know not when; Never to part again.

It amazas me how ones guilt can surface. @ Christine & Lori it amazes me how you can comment on my father. It is because of you Lori that my father is six feet in the ground . I trully hope that they post this because I hope the detectives can read it . What amazes is me is that you can write such words to my father when in reality you abused him physically & mentally you and your family yes Lori I have gathered up so much documents that were left behind in my fathers home & what amazes me is how graphic the reports are . Where were you when my poor sisters were cleaning my fathers brains from the floor? See another thing a lot of neighbors & wittnesses I as well have signed statements stating YOUR SON WILL was in the front yard when two men confronted him and asked for someone by the name of peewee YOUR son WILL shook these cowards hand and sent them to the back where my father was yes I spoke to the last that was seated there VIKKI I have signed letter from her see the thing is LORI YOU & YOUR SON HAVE MY FATHERS BLOOD ON YOUR HANDS I AM PUTTING THE STORY TOGETHER ON MY OWN & ONE THING MY FATHER HAS INSTALLED IN ME IS COURAGE,HONOR,RESPECT & LOYALTY. In this world that surrounds us We sometimes brake down and fall Those who stand above us Can make us seem so small

We tremble under the weight Of the problems that hold us down And when we start to collapse There seems to be no one around

well I drove by your house dad and it seems things remain the same so many questions with NO ONE to answer I feel like if I am going insane.

I think I will be seen you soon I hope "Heaven" awaits me with open arms I guess we will wait & see.. I keep sending you poems in Heaven I hope you can read them and see that my heart aches.

I dont remember much from last night,
All i remember is my heart stopped beating,
Now i am blinded everywhere with a bright light
I hear people crying
I see people at a funeral
I see a helpless person lying in a coffin
I get a peek at the person,
I realize its me
My hands are cold, i feel no heartbeat
Now a flash and im in a place full of trees
Where am i?
Am i in heaven?, cause if i am, where do i go?
I need help before i go out of radge
Im scared i want my parents
But i know its too late,
I cant go back,
Where is heaven?

In a place i can see people and hear them but they can't see me
Am i a ghost?

Another day another emptyness night dad
:'( I toss in turn in bed I just can't seem to sleep, I think of you always please don't forget me I love you dad and in my heart you will forever be.
Nothing can be my therapy. Not heven crossing the oceans wide. Neither riches nor a human. Can heal the emptiness I feel inside.

I am a mass of sorrows. So please stay away from me. I don't know about tomorrow. But sad I think I always will be.

I am a bunch of scars. And a sea that's filled with tears. I've developed immunity To the stares and swears and smears.

I don't want to be a burden. Because walking my path won't be light. You have to endure my storms of sadness If you're not ready, than that's alright.

I feel your pain. It's very difficult for me to sleep knowing that someone just walked up to him and killed him. I feel so helpless. I should have taken him with me to Japan 22 years ago. He was a good man and a good brother.

When I visited LA four years ago, your father waited for me. He was the only sibling that wanted to meet me. He didn't tell me he was in a wheelchair. I was shocked but your father didn't let his disability keep him from moving. He still had many dreams for his family and for himself.

When he saw me, he said, "My little brother has come home." He cried and gave me and my son a big hug. I never felt so much love until that day. My son said, "Uncle Charles is interesting. I like him."

I hope one day we can meet.

I would like to add a few more comments.

I left Los Angeles 20 years ago. I now live in Japan. In Japan, I let my children play in the park without supervision since there isn't a need, have them go shopping at 8:00 o'clock in the evening alone, etc. I have no worries other than if they are not careful about traffic. In Japan, the roads are very narrow.

I walk my dog at anytime I desire. Women can walk alone at 3:00 o'clock in the morning without worry. I don't worry to worry if someone is going to C** my A**.

During my 20 years in Japan, the area I am living had only about 4 murders. I live in a very large city, a population of 1.5 million people.

I am shocked by the fact that 323 people have been killed since January of this year. Do the math.

If there is a reporter at the LA Times that is interested in what I have to say, I would be glad to be interviewed. There is a story that must be told.

Americans talk about freedom but you don't have the freedom of movement. That means you don't have freedom, houses with barred windows, you can't go to place because you are putting yourself in harm's way, etc. It's so sad.

Although I didn't agree with my brother's lifestyle, I admire him because he was a true man. If he challenged someone or if he was challenged, he would do it man-to-man, no guns or knives or weapons.

He was in a wheelchair at the time of his killing. The person who did this was not a true man but a coward. All the person had to do was run the other way or fight him man-to-man. A man in a wheelchair could not catch up to someone who was paralyzed from the waist down.

Again, people in Los Angeles, it doesn't have to be this way. Take back your city for yourself, your children and for the future of America.
