Two men sentenced in fatal Highland Park convenience store robbery

Two men were sentenced July 6 to life in prison without possibility of parole for killing a store clerk in Highland Park in 2013, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Rasheen Childs, 22, and Bryant Moore, 21, were found guilty in February of first-degree murder for killing Gonzalo Garcia-Garcia, 31, and the special circumstance of murder during an attempted robbery.

Childs was also convicted of 18 counts second-degree robbery; Moore was convicted of 10 counts. Each man was also convicted of one count of attempted second-degree robbery and false imprisonment.

On Dec. 22, 2013, Childs and Moore entered a 7-Eleven in the 5100 block of North Figueroa Street, and approached Garcia-Garcia, the store clerk, prosecutors said. While trying to rob the store, Childs drew a gun and shot Garcia-Garcia, prosecutors added. The two men then fled.

Garcia was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:32 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Childs and Moore were later caught after a series of robberies in Highland Park.
