Claudia Gonzalez (2018-03-16)

Claudia Gonzalez, a 30-year-old Latina, was shot and killed Friday, March 16, in the 8300 block of South Broadway in the Florence neighborhood of South Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Gonzalez was sitting on a bus stop bench about 8:30 p.m., waiting to travel home, when a man got out of a van and shot her, Los Angeles Police Det. Chris Barling said, adding that the van fled after the shooting.

Gonzalez was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:48 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

Investigators learned that before the shooting, Gonzalez had visited a man with whom she had a child. The man wouldn’t let Gonzalez see her child, so she left.

Police identified Larry Sierra, a 26-year-old Latino, as the father of Gonzalez’s child. Sierra has been charged with one count of murder in Gonzalez’s slaying, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Sierra is due in court for an arraignment May 1, according to online court records.
