Cornell James Hunter, 27

Cornell James Hunter, a 27-year-old black man, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, after he was shot near West 81st Place and Budlong Avenue in Vermont Knolls, according to Los Angeles County medical examiner-coroner’s records.

On Jan. 20 about 9:40 p.m., Hunter was driving a vehicle west on West 81st Place when a person pulled up and fired at him, said Los Angeles Police Det. Dave Garrido.

Cornell was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Jan. 22 at 7:55 p.m., according to coroner’s records.

The suspect vehicle is believed to be an SUV, police said. Hunter was in town from Las Vegas for his son’s birthday party, police said.
