Courtney Bergman, 19

Courtney Bergman, a 19-year-old white woman, was found dead Tuesday, Feb. 28, in the 1900 block of Rockefeller Lane in Redondo Beach, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Authorities found Bergman's body along with that of her mother, Vicki Bergman, in their home about 10 a.m. Coroner's records show both women had multiple sharp force wounds to their bodies.

Police say a co-worker of one of the women discovered the mother and daughter. The co-worker who found the bodies told police that she had been with at least one of the victims the day before.

Courtney's boyfriend, Jonathan Scott Chacon, was named as a person of interest in connection with the slayings. Police released his photo and a description of his vehicle to the public. He was believed to be armed and dangerous.

A day after the discovery, Chacon, a 23-year-old Latino, was detained by Mexican authorities in a hotel in Rosarito Beach, Baja California.

Chacon was returned to the United States and was in custody at the Redondo Beach Police Department, police said.

Redondo Beach police worked with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection and Mexican authorities to find Chacon.

The vehicle Chacon was driving has not been located, and police are seeking information about it, officials said.

Chacon has since been charged with two counts of murder, the Los Angeles County district attorney's office said. Prosecutors said they would hold off on deciding whether to pursue the death penalty.

Chacon is being held without bail at the Men's Central Jail in downtown. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 27 at the Torrance Municipal Court.
