A story for every victim

Cristian Lozano, 40

Cristian Lozano, a 40-year-old Latino, died Tuesday, April 30, after he was beaten in the 11300 block of South Figueroa Street in Vermont Vista, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s records.

About 4:20 a.m., Lozano was sleeping on the sidewalk when a person walked up to him and confronted him about being in the area, said Los Angeles Police Det. Nathan Kouri.

The man didn’t want Lozano in the area and began to beat him with a metal pipe, police said.

Lozano was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:33 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Police identified Lawrence Coleman, a 55-year-old black man, as a suspect, Kouri said.

Prosecutors charged Coleman with one count of murder with the allegation that he used the pipe as a deadly and dangerous weapon, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Coleman is due back in court May 28.
