A story for every victim

Cristina Rosales, 34

Christina Rosales, a 34-year-old Latina, died of possible smoke inhalation in a fire on Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, in the 2800 block of South Redondo Boulevard in the Crenshaw district, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office.

Her body and the body of her father Salvador Rosales, a 78-year-old Latino, were found inside their home after a suspicious fire, according to the Los Angeles police.

Authorities had been called to the scene after a "distraught woman" called 911 shortly before 1 a.m., according to an LAPD news release.

The woman told the dispatcher "he is setting the house on fire,” and screamed before the telephone went dead.

A 63-year-old woman, identified by police as Christina's mother and Salvador's wife, was critically injured in the fire. At the time, police said she was expected to survive.
