Dahial Bernadette-Irene Lanarus, 11
Dahial Lanarus, an 11-year-old black girl, was stabbed to death Tuesday, Aug. 3, in the 10300 block of East Avenue R-14 in Sun Village, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Sheriff’s deputies said the attack occurred inside a home about 7:40 a.m. When authorities arrived, they discovered Dahial dead inside.
They found another other 14-year-old girl, later identified as Dahial’s sister, badly wounded outside the house. She was taken to a hospital and was in critical condition
Sheriff’s homicide Lt. Pat Nelson said both girls suffered stab wounds and doctors were trying to determine if they had other injuries as well.
Nelson said deputies responding to the scene immediately set up a perimeter and searched for a suspect.
“He was found hiding in a nearby backyard,” Nelson said. “He is a juvenile male aged 16, 17, and the only suspect in this incident.”
Detectives are still questioning people and trying to understand what happened and why.
“There is some indication he is related in some way,” Nelson said of the suspect.
On Aug. 5, the Los Angeles County district attorney's office charged Lonnie Lee Liner, a 16-year-old black teenager, as an adult with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder. The complaint says Liner personally used a deadly and dangerous weapon, a knife, to commit the acts.
Liner, a cousin of the victims, allegedly attacked both girls, slashing Dahial's throat and stabbing her sister several times.
He is currently being in lieu of $2.04 million. Prosecutors said Liner faces a maximum of two life terms in prison.
