Daisy Garcia, 14

Daisy Garcia, a 14-year-old Latina, was shot and killed Sunday, July 4, in the 1300 block of South Toberman Street in Pico-Union, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Daisy was with family and neighbors celebrating the Fourth of July outside her home about 10:20 p.m., when four or five males approached, according to a Los Angeles Police Department news release.

One of them fired several shots, hitting the girl in the chest. It wasn't clear whether Daisy had been targeted, but detectives believe the shooting was gang-related.

She was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead soon afterward. Police are asking anyone with information to call (213) 484-3650. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call Crimestoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (800) 222-8477.
