Damon Johnson, 17

Damon Johnson, a 17-year-old black youth, was shot at 1736 Sage Brush Way in Carson, and died at 1:54 p.m. Feb. 5.

According to police, this neighborhood was dangerous for Johnson because of gang-territory rivalries. But he ventured into it anyway to see a young woman. He was spotted and pursued by his assailants, who chased him several blocks, then shot and killed him. Sheriff's deputies arrived on the scene and gave chase. They apprehended a suspect, 19-year-old Charles Edwards.
