A story for every victim

Daniel Jacob Mason, 15

Daniel Jacob Mason, a 15-year-old Latino, was fatally shot on Monday, Feb. 25, in the 1300 block of  West 3rd Street in Pomona, according to Los Angeles County medical examiner-coroner's records.

Daniel was standing outside his new home with other family members around 7 p.m. when a car drove by and someone inside began shooting, said Pomona Police Sgt. Jon Edson.

"He'd only been living in Pomona for three weeks or so," Edson said. "His family had moved from Ontario and was temporarily staying with relatives."

Daniel was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:39 p.m., according to coroner's records. The cause of death was listed as gunshot wounds to the torso.

Investigators don't have a motive for the shooting, Edson said, and family members didn't get a good look at the car.

"He'd just moved here," Edson said, adding there is no evidence that Daniel was involved in gangs in Pomona or his former home in Ontario.
