Daniel Ramirez, 28

Daniel Ramirez, a 28-year-old Latino, was found dead Monday, Jan. 7, near West 82nd Street and South Grand Avenue in Florence, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Shortly after 3 a.m., officers from the Los Angeles Police Department were on patrol when they came across a city trash can that was set on fire, said LAPD Det. Dave Garrido.

Officers called the fire department. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and realized that a person was inside the can, police said.

That person, later identified as Ramirez, was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:25 a.m., according to coroner's records.

Police believe that Ramirez was shot, then placed in the trash can, which was then lit on fire.

Detectives are asking for the public's help in identifying any witnesses.
