A story for every victim

Danny Ronald Chea, 25

Danny Ronald Chea, a 25-year-old Asian man, was shot and killed Monday, Oct. 24, in the 2900 block of North Broadway in Lincoln Heights, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 2:30 p.m., Chea was driving a black Chevy Blazer north on North Broadway approaching Griffin Avenue with his girlfriend and her young son when another vehicle approached, said Los Angeles Police Det. Jose Ramirez.

A person inside the vehicle fired multiple gunshots, striking Chea, who lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a King Taco.

Chea was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:58 p.m.

The woman and her son who were in the vehicle at the time of the shooting were not injured.

On Nov. 18, police arrested Andy Brian Acosta, a 23-year-old Latino, on suspicion of murder, Ramirez said. Police obtained surveillance video and eyewitness accounts linking Acosta to the suspect vehicle, a gray SUV, Ramirez said.

Acosta was charged Nov. 22 with two counts of attempted murder and one count of murder, possession of a firearm by a felon and shooting at an occupied vehicle, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Acosta pleaded not guilty to the charges Dec. 7 and is due back in court Jan. 25.
