Dante Kennybrew, a 19-year-old black man, was shot and killed Wednesday, Oct. 3, in the 6200 block of South Vermont Avenue in Vermont-Slauson, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Shortly after 5 p.m., Kennybrew was standing on the sidewalk with a group of people, said Los Angeles Police Det. Chris Barling. Two people walked up and shot at the group, striking Kennybrew and two others, ages 23 and 24, Barling said.

The gunmen then got into a vehicle, which fled.

Kennybrew was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:51 p.m., according to coroner’s records. The other two people who were wounded are expected to survive.

Detectives are seeking witnesses.
