A story for every victim

Daryl Leon Hanson, 48

Daryl Leon Hanson, a 48-year-old white man, was fatally stabbed Thursday, Oct. 11, in the 7500 block of Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

About 12:45 a.m., Hanson was found with stab wounds in the area, said Los Angeles police Det. Sean Kinchla. Hanson was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:33 a.m., according to coroner’s records, which also state that he died of “sharp force” trauma to the torso area.

Investigators later determined that Hanson got into a verbal altercation with a woman sitting in a vehicle outside a liquor store, according to prosecutors. The woman's boyfriend came out of the liquor store, returned to his vehicle, then followed Hanson into a back alley where the stabbing took place, prosecutors said.

The defendant, identified by police and prosecutors as Spencer Jay Doland, a 34-year-old white man, has been charged with murder with the allegation that he used a knife to kill Hanson, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Doland is due back in court Oct. 31 for an arraignment.

Hanson was a well-known homeless person in the Hollywood area who could often be spotted sweeping the area he frequented, according to KTLA-TV Channel 5.
