Woman who killed her mother sentenced to two consecutive terms of 25 years to life

A 27-year-old woman was sentenced July 2 to two consecutive terms of 25 years to life in state prison for killing her mother in Woodland Hills in 2013, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Laura L. Purviance pleaded no contest on June 30 to one count of first-degree murder and using a handgun to shoot and kill her mother, Caroline Sue Purviance, 61, on Feb. 14, 2013.

Prosecutors said Laura Purviance lured her mother into her bedroom and then shot her in the back of the head, according to evidence presented in court.

The daughter then took her mother’s car and fled to Oregon, where she was arrested two days later near Medford.
