A story for every victim

David Hendricks, 18

David Hendricks, a 18-year-old black man, was shot and killed Monday, Dec. 19, in the 5800 block of Barcelona Drive in Palmdale, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Hendricks was visiting relatives who had recently moved to the neighborhood, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Sgt. R. Martindale, who is handling the case.  There was an argument between the suspect and victim before the shooting occurred outside, he said.

Officials responded to a 911 call made by a family member, and Hendricks was transferred to Palmdale Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 2 p.m., officials said.  According to coroner’s records, Hendricks died from a gunshot wound to his chest.

One suspect, who is believed to have provided the gun to the shooter, was arrested Dec. 22. There is an arrest warrant for the shooter, described as a 22-year-old man.

The two suspects belonged to different gangs but knew each other through various dealings, “but we have no reason to believe that the victim was a gang member. He was just visiting relatives,” Martindale said.

Officials did not provide any additional information about the case.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Martindale or Det. Q. Rodriguez at (323) 890-5500. Tipsters who would like to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (800) 222-8477.
