A story for every victim

Davon Lee Pledger, 26

Davon Lee Pledger, a 26-year-old Black man, was shot and killed Saturday, May 9, in the 13200 block of Cornelius Street in Pacoima, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner's records.

At 10:40 p.m., Pledger was standing outside a friend’s house when three males in a dark-colored sedan drove up, jumped out of the vehicle, shot Pledger and fled, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department.

Pledger was pronounced dead at the scene.

At a news conference Aug. 19 to announce a $50,000 reward for information in Pledger’s killing, his mother, Geraldine Lang, described her son as “the kindest person ever.” She said that Pledger, who had two young children, was not gang affiliated.

“He lived for those two kids,” she said.

Lang urged anyone who saw anything to call police.

“Do not be afraid,” she said. “Mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, whomever … put yourself in my shoes, see how I feel.”

Lang called the death of her son senseless, and addressed his killers.

“You took a part of me that was a blessing to me,” she said. “I can’t close this hole until I get justice.”
