Davon Jamel Vargas, 26

Davon Vargas, a 26-year-old black man, was fatally shot Sunday, April 8, in the 3200 block of West 60th Street in Hyde Park, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Vargas was standing on the sidewalk with a female friend about 8:20 p.m. when a male ran up and began firing a gun, said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office.

Both Vargas and the woman were hit. Authorities were called and the two were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Vargas was pronounced dead at 8:51 p.m. According to coroner's records, he suffered several gunshot wounds to his body.

The female suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Winter said.
