Denice Roberts, 53 [Updated]

Denice Roberts, a 53-year-old black woman, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, in the 12600 block of South Hoover Street in Harbor Gateway, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

According to preliminary information provided by the coroner's office, Roberts was found bound and gagged with bruising to the neck.

The Times contacted homicide investigators to get more details about Roberts' death, but was informed there had been a security hold placed on the case.

When officials deem a death to be high-profile or sensitive in nature, security holds are placed and no additional information is released to the public.

[Updated Nov. 10: Officials said Roberts' husband returned to their home about 3:30 p.m. and found his wife dead, according to a Los Angeles Police Department news release.

Authorities have since made an arrest in connection with Roberts' death.

During the investigation, detectives learned that John Wesley Ewell, a 53-year-old black man who was apprehended in a string of home invasion robbery-killings, was linked to Roberts’ death.
