Dereck Martinez, a 33-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Monday, Feb. 13, in the 9300 block of Clovis Avenue in Green Meadows, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Shortly before 10 p.m., a group of people were hanging out in the frontyard of a home when an argument broke out, said Los Angeles Police Det. Nathan Kouri.
A man left, came back and opened fire into the group, striking Martinez, Kouri said. Martinez was pronounced dead at 10 p.m. at the scene, according to coroner’s records.
The gunman then fled in a black Corvette. Based on a vehicle description, a man was quickly apprehended and arrested on suspicion of murder.
Police identified the suspect as Raymond Alcala, a 34-year-old Latino. Alcala has been charged with one count of murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office. Alcala also faces five counts of attempted murder.
