Derrick Anthony Hill, 48
Derrick Anthony Hill, a 48-year-old black man, was shot and killed Saturday, June 14, in the 800 block of East 78th Street in Broadway-Manchester, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.
Hill’s brother, Louis Hill, a 40-year-old black man, was involved in a fight earlier in the evening and went home about 9 p.m. to retrieve a gun, said Los Angeles Police Det. Dave Garrido.
Louis Hill then went outside, and his brother, Derrick, followed him. Witnesses heard a single gunshot.
Derrick Hill was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:42 p.m., said Ed Winter, a coroner’s spokesman.
Louis Hill was arrested June 15 but released two days later, according to online Sheriff’s Department jail records.
The L.A. County district attorney’s office declined to file charges against Louis Hill because of insufficient evidence, said Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the office. Robison called the shooting a "tragic accident."
Garrido said the investigation is ongoing, and police are seeking witnesses
