Devin Smith, 20

Devin Smith, a 20-year-old black man, was shot and killed on Wednesday, May 1 in the 1400 block of East Florida Street in Long Beach, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Police responded to a report of gunshots fired about 3:20 p.m. and found Smith wounded in the courtyard of an apartment complex, according to a news release. He was taken to a hospital,where he died at 3:48 p.m., according to coroner's records.

On May 14, 2013, Artileus Richardson, 23, of Long Beach, was arrested in connection with the shooting. He was charged with one count of murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon, said Shiara Davila-Morales of the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.

Richardson is being held in lieu of more than $2-million bail, according to county jail records.
