A story for every victim

Dominique Briana McDaniels, 18

Dominique McDaniels, an 18-year-old black woman, was fatally shot Sunday, April 24, near 117th Place and Compton Avenue in Willowbrook, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

McDaniels and another woman were walking together down the street about 11:20 a.m. when they were approached by a man, according to a Sheriff's Department news release.

The women got into an argument with the man who then walked away from the two, authorities said.

At some point, the man turned around, came up from behind the women and fired a handgun at McDaniels, striking her.

After shooting McDaniels, police said the assailant chased the other woman and fired at her but missed, before fleeing on foot.

Sheriff's officials said McDaniels was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. Coroner's records show she died from a gunshot wound to the torso.

Investigators described the assailant as a black man with a shaved head and dark clothing.

Anyone with information about the identity of the shooter is asked to contact the sheriff's homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500. Tipsters who would like to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (800-222-8477).
