Dominique Peatry, a 14-year-old black girl, was shot and killed Sunday, Sept. 5, in the 44000 block of 6th Street East in Lancaster, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

The shooting occurred shortly before 1 a.m. at a house party, according to Deputy Lillian Peck of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Dominique and six others were injured. The victims, ranging in age from 13 to 26, were taken to a local hospital for treatment. Dominique was pronounced dead an hour later, authorities said.

The other victims are all expected to survive.

A gang dispute appears to have sparked the shooting, officials said.

Homicide bureau Lt. Pat Nelson said investigators are “confident” that the shooting was gang-related, but declined to identify the gangs. There had been no arrests made by Monday evening.

Nelson called the shooting a “senseless, brutal crime,” and asked anyone with information to call homicide detectives at (323) 890-5500 or leave an anonymous tip at (800) 222-TIPS.

My thoughts and prayers to the family. The big question is " Why can't a family gathering, party or get together be fun and drama free?" Why is it that we are not free to enjoy our family and friends with out the fear of a drive by? How come we live in a war zone in our own communities? We need to be outraged every day someone is killed and we need to go out and march until our feet blister every time a precious child is murdered by these low lifes. I don't blame the family I blame the world we live in. It is now the norm to hear gunshots, to see yellow police tape and to hear that all to familar " scream" of a loved one once they hear of the death of their son or daughter. It is sad but I feel like a day without a murder is not normal. I pray that the congressmen and senators and city officials hear our cry and changed the city they took office to serve. The only way this will end is with the help of our city leaders and the community. I would like to start a petition to send to the county supervisor, to Maxine Waters and to anyone else who is supposed to be our voice, I am just not sure how to get it started and how many signitures it will need to even get their attention. So tired of it all.

What's wrong with the high desert social club? It doesn't sound like gang trash to me...why don't you look them up before you run your mouth@ wasted time. I checked them out online and they seem like decent people. As for black flight up to the high desert in the 90s..it was a joke... us decent blacks should have turn the tables on the gangs in the 80s and stayed in south central and watts and long beach and compton..instead many of us blacks moved to the ie and the high desert and let the riffraff move in also... no disrepect to white people but the white people did the opposite and we should have done what they did...most of the white riffraff are in the ie and high desert..they all up in victorville, san ber doo, riverside, palmdale,hemet,and barstow with their motocycle gangs and skin head groups making that meth...but they are up there in numbers..not down here in big numbers...not saying that the most people in the high desert are bad cause that's true also the high desert riffraff are not all up in the city shooting up anybody at a party or a random walkin down the street at 217 am. ...is it a stereo type or is there some truth in what I'm saying? We should run the thugs to the high desert and let them live up there ...cause soon as the middle class blacks moved out the illegals moved in...they whole ie and high desert is a freakin joke to me and I felt that way since I was a teen in the 90s and I also read the book CITY OF QUARTS by Mike Davis which also reinforced my opions of us blacks in so cal
