Donte Bernard Catchings, 18

Donte Catchings, an 18-year-old black man, was shot and killed Saturday, Oct. 30, in the 3600 block of Chesapeake Avenue in Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Police received a call reporting a shooting about 6:30 p.m., said LAPD criminal gang and homicide Det. Dave Garrido. Authorities arrived and found Catchings shot in the face. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Garrido said.

The incident appears to be a walk-up shooting that was gang-related, he said.

Officials describe the shooter as a male black, 18 to 20 years old.
