Douglas Collins, 47

Douglas Collins, a 47-year-old black man, was fatally shot Thursday, Oct. 14, in the 600 block of West 117th Street in Vermont Vista, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Collins was near his residence standing on the sidewalk talking to a person in a car about 10:30 p.m. when he was shot, said LAPD Criminal Gang and Homicide Det. Scott Smith.

Neighbors heard the gunshots, found Collins injured and called police, Smith said. Collins was taken to a hospital where he died an hour later.

Smith said no arrests have been made in connection with the case. Investigators do not have a description of the shooter; however witnesses said the getaway vehicle had tinted windows.
