A story for every victim

Dylan James Hernandez, 28

Dylan Hernandez, a 28-year-old Latino, died from blunt-force trauma Monday, Oct. 26, 2015, after he was assaulted in the 40100 block of 10th Street West in Palmdale, according to Los Angeles County coroner’s records.

Hernandez's former roommate, Sergio Escobar-Miranda, 28, of Lancaster, was arrested March 25 on a Los Angeles County Superior Court warrant charging him with murder in connection with Hernandez's death, Sheriff's Sgt. Guillermo Morales said.

Shortly before 1:53 a.m., Hernandez finished shopping at a Wal-Mart Supercenter and walked into the parking lot when he saw Escobar-Miranda, authorities said. The two got into a fist fight.

No weapons were used in the fight, Morales said. Hernandez was knocked down a couple of times during the fight, and he may have hit his head.

Hernandez was taken to a local hospital with head injuries. He was pronounced dead eight days later, at 3:24 a.m. on Oct. 26, according to coroner’s records.

Investigators used surveillance cameras in the parking lot to identify Escobar-Miranda, who drove away from the scene after the fight, Morales said.
