Earl Dean Chiles, 43

Earl Dean Chiles, a 43-year-old black man, was shot and killed Saturday Dec. 21 in the 11500 block of South Vermont Avenue in Vermont Vista, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s records.

About 1:30 a.m., people were in a parking lot when an argument broke out and Chiles was shot, said Los Angeles Police Det. Nathan Kouri.

It’s unclear what the disagreement was about, and the shooter fled.

Chiles was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:47 a.m., according to coroner’s records.

Police are seeking witnesses.
