Edgar Franquez, 36

Edgar Franquez, a 36-year-old Latino, died Thursday, Aug. 22, after he was shot in the 5000 block of Fayette Street in Highland Park, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s records.

About 9:18 p.m. on Aug. 21, Franquez was in his backyard when he was approached by a person who shot him, said Los Angeles Police Det. Ryan Watterson. Officers responded to a shooting call at the home. 

Franquez was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:53 a.m. Aug. 22, according to coroner’s records. 

Police are trying to determine if the assailant fled on foot or in a vehicle. At this point, police have not released a motive.
