A story for every victim

Edward Allan Cole, 30

Edward Cole, a  31-year-old white man, was pronounced dead on Tuesday, April 9, after he was stabbed in the 41700 block of 156th Street East in Lake Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner records.

Cole was in the home he rented with his girlfriend, Melissa Burana Sombati, around 9:30 p.m. when the two got into an argument, said Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Derrick Alfred.

Witnesses told investigators that the couple continued arguing in the garage, where Burana Sombati allegedly stabbed Cole once in the chest, Alfred said.

Cole was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:50 p.m., according to coroner's records. The cause of death was listed as a stab wound to the chest.

His girlfriend, Burana Sombati, a 31-year-old white woman, was arrested at the scene and charged with murder on April 12, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court records. She is scheduled to be arraigned on April 25 in Room A01 of the county's Michael D. Antonovich Antelope Valley Courthouse.

She is being held in lieu of $2 million bail, according to jail records.

Burana Sombati, the mother of two children not related to Cole, had been convicted in February of corporal injury against a cohabitant and sentenced to 36 months of probation, according to court records.

Investigators believe Burana Sombati was the aggressor in the assault that killed Cole and was not acting out of self-defense, Alfred said.
