A story for every victim

Edwin Ali Cordero, 21

Edwin Cordero, a 21-year-old Latino, was shot and killed Tuesday, Aug. 17, in the 4600 block of East 3rd Street in East Los Angeles, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.

Cordero was standing on the sidewalk about 12:32 p.m. when a car drove by and someone inside the vehicle shot at him, said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office.

Authorities were called, and Cordero was pronounced dead at the scene, Winter said.

L.A. County sheriff's homicide Det. Mark Lillienfeld, who is handling the investigation, said Cordero was a gang member and the incident was gang-related.

No arrests have been made in connection with the case.

Witnesses to the shooting said there were two occupants in the car: a Latino driver and passenger who fired the weapon. They were driving a late 90s to early 2000 black four-door Toyota Corolla with a spoiler, tinted windows and chrome wheels, Lillienfeld said.

Anyone with information about the case or the identity of the shooters is asked to contact Det. Lillienfeld at (323) 890-5500.
